TRAINING & SOCIALISATION

The key to a well balanced, well behaved and socialable dog!

• Before purchasing a new dog/puppy you need to consider that you are responsible for all of this animals needs - diet, exercise, training, welfare, love and companionship.
• A dog is what YOU make it, YOU need to put the time and effort into training and raising your dog to be a sociable, confident, happy and well adjusted animal, if YOU cannot do this then DON'T buy a dog!

SOCIALISATION

• First and foremost aquire your puppy from a reputable breeder, who understands the breed and has spent alot of time already introducing the puppies to various sights and sounds within the home environment ie hoovers, radios, tvs, children, other animals.
• Ensure the parents of your puppy are of sound temperament to.  You should always be able to see the mother in her home environment.
• The rest is up to YOU, the more you introduce your puppy to at a young age, the easier it will be for it to accept these things and not be scared by them when it comes into contact with them throughout its life.

REMEMBER:

• Expose your puppy to as much as possible as soon as you can

•    Each and every day make sure your puppy sees different things, hears different noises and sees different people

•  Although your puppy is not vaccinated you can carry him/her around so he/she still sees and gets exposed to lots of new things

•   Start training your pup as soon as possible, use treats and lots of praise and encouragement – a well behaved pup is a happy pup

•  Once vaccinated take your pup into town, sit in the precinct and loads of people young and old will make a fuss of him/her – this way he/she learns to except all different people

•   Make sure you expose your puppy to traffic and roads, pushbikes and motorbikes.  He may back away at first, just stay relaxed and ignore behaviour like this, when he is sitting calmly praise him loads!  You do not want an adult rottweiler towing you away from the roads or worse still running head first into them!

•   Handle your puppy as much as possible, check his/her eyes, ears, feet and claws daily.  Clip his/her claws regularly; even if he/she objects persevere do not let your dog stop you from doing this.  Brush him/her regularly.  All of this helps to form a bond with your puppy, and is excellent when you have to take your dog to the vets for a check up!

•   Basically the more your puppy sees and gets used at as young an age as possible the more he/she will accept them and won’t see them as a threat.  You will end up with a happy, well trained and sociable adult rottweiler, which you should be proud of!
